Last night a friend heard Donald Sinden delivering an after-dinner speech in which he recorded Noel Coward's reaction to seeing the poster for Michael Redgrave and Dirk Bogarde in The Sea Shall Not Have Them. "Why not? Everybody else has..."
Can anyone authenticate this showbiz anecdote, heard yonks ago on the C4 "Countdown" programme?
Arthur McShane (Stage Name "Old Mother Riley") was appearing in pantomime and sadly, sadly died of a heart attack during one of the intervals. The House Manager came onstage at the restart to make the announcement that The Dame was dead . . . and a houseful of children chorused "Oh No she isn't . . "
