It's all got to go somewhere

People never used to pick up dog crap. There again, maybe there weren't as many dogs as there are now. Coming through Clerkenwell yesterday I happened upon one young couple apparently obeying the new etiquette with a plastic bag. The attack dog she was wrangling on the far end of a stout chain had just relieved itself and she was bending down to clear it up. As I overtook them and walked on I heard him mutter "Now throw it over the wall". (The path runs alongside the high wall surrounding an old primary school building turned into flats.) I couldn't bring myself to look round to see if she had complied. All the way back to the office I couldn't help wondering if some poor soul on the other side of the wall was also wondering what they had done do deserve this noisome visitation.

  1. Do they not have 'dog mess' bins in that there London? Surely the difference between walking up to a bin and chucking it over a wall is so minimal that your conscience would prevail?!

  5. Apropos nothing

Daft conversation I just heard in my office.

Two guys who sit at adjacent desks.

First guy picks up phone and starts to dial , hesitates and turns to second guy.

"What's Duncan's second name?" he asks.

    Second guy "Duncan who?"

Allan Bennett makes a career out of this kinda thing.

  6. I'm new to dog ownership (blame the girlfriend) and I always pick up the 'mess' but as we live in the countyside there is never a bin to put it in so I end up having to carry a plastic bag of warm shit around with me for most of the walk. Is it ok to leave the shit in the hedgerows or not ?,I don't know

  7. How are all the other creatures of the countryside dealing with their waste matter?

  8. It's pretty gauling to be holding the aformetioned 'Bag of Shite' when a horse dumps it's load in the middle of the road and horse and rider trot off into the horizon !

  9. You are right, people never used to pick it up. When I see someone pick it up and put it in a bin I want to say 'well done', but fear it would sound patronising and they would reply "What? Did you think I was going to throw it over the wall or something?"

From what I've heard the bears simply take a shit in the woods.

(Don't worry, I've already tipped the waitresses).

  11. I don't think I've ever seen quite as much dog shit as when I went running on Blackpool seafront the day before yesterday. I guess all it takes is a freakishly high tide, but still.
