I give you a great truth about movie-making

Suitcases carried by actors are clearly empty.

That's one of my bugbears too.... why can't they just stick a couple of pillows in there just to give a little plumpness?

As a digression, if you didn't see Joe's Palace (written by Stephen Poliakoff) last night, you should ask for the DVD from Santa or someone with Sky+.

Also that shoulder bag Michael Palin carries around the world. Folds down the middle around his waste so there's obviously not even a Lonely Planet in it.

There are various sites out there that list movie cliches. I was browsing around one the other day, reading lots of tired observations about well-worn movie cliches - folk chuck away their guns when they run out of ammo; they never lock their cars; they turn the light on when the phone rings in the night; the ethnic character always gets killed, etc. - and I found myself stuck in a boredom loop that prevented me from leaving the site. Anyway. It struck me that the whole idea of the movie cliche is itself the biggest cliche of all. What's that you say? 'People typing away on a computer will turn it off without saving the data'? Surely not! 'When speeding cars hit a parked car, they fly up into the air while the parked car doesn't move'! Could it be true?

    I'm going for lie down.
