By the way, Bonnie Raitt's "Angel From Montgomery" is one of the great covers of all time. It's a John Prine song but she does it way better. For the way she sings "if dreams were thunder and lightning was desire this old house would have burned down a long time ago" she should be carried shoulder high for the rest of her life.

ReplyDeleteI was listening to Crackles on Wax this morning and John Denver's Annie's Song came on near the end. I thought you'd blown it until I checked my itunes and realised that your mix HAD ended and Annie's Song is, in fact, in my library. I don't know how that ever got in there. Honest. Needless to say I've sat myself down and had a long talk.. Great mix by the way and you're spot on about Bonnie Raitt..Although John Prine's a good 'un too.
ReplyDeleteYou're damn right about Bonnie Raitt. Street Lights & Give It Up are wonderful albums. Also, 'Stayed Too Long At The Fair' is equally as good as a cover. Joel Dorn wrote it, I think. Who was he?

I will confess that I once went to see Bonnie Raitt & America at the New Victoria(?), down in the one-way system. Had a seat way up in the gods - and for the only time in my life, ever, I nodded off at a gig.
America were to blame.
